Autodesk released the latest version of Flame ahead of the NAB Show in Las Vegas. New features in Flame 2025 include a brand new Match Grain node, STMap node, a reworked user system, and much more to help you accelerate creative workflows.

Match Grain

Use the Match Grain node to apply the grain or noise from a clip to your composition.

Highlights include:

  • Fast extraction of the grain from an original clip.
  • Ability to modify the grain using RGB curves.
  • Grain dispersion controls.
  • Scale, Blur, and Gain transforms.
  • Workflow to apply the same normalized grain to other clips.

Lens Distortion

Use the Lens Distortion node to compute the lens distortion of a clip, employing either a Lens Grid clip or manually-inserted splines. The result of the calculation can be employed to either undistort or distort the clip.

Highlights include:

  • Import 3DEqualizer Lens Distortion data.
  • Selection of multiple distortion models.
  • Automatic detection of lines in a Lens Grid or Front clip.
  • Selection of the repeat mode.
  • Selection of the filtering, including the new Mitchell-Netravali and Catmull-Rom filters.
  • Output of an STMap and Inverse STMap to apply the same undistortion to other clips or to apply back the distortion using the STMap node.
  • Easy workflow to apply back the distortion with a duplicated Lens Distortion node.

STMap

Use the STMap node to either undistort or distort a clip by means of an STMap clip. This STMap clip can originate from another application or from the STMap or Inverse STMap outputs of a Lens Distortion node. In the latter instance, the STMap node is applied to either undistort a different clip or to reintroduce distortion to a clip previously undistorted using the Lens Distortion node.

With the introduction of the new STMap node, the UVWarp32 matchbox shader is no longer available. Setups from older versions containing that node will still load properly.
